MarineMax acquires Illinois-based boat retail company, adds 20 locations

MarineMax, based in Clearwater, has acquired SkipperBud’s, based in Winthrop Harbor, Illinois and its affiliate, Silver Seas, adding 20 locations to the MarineMax footprint in the United States.

With the acquisition, MarineMax adds locations in Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Ohio, California, Washington and Florida. It also expands MarineMax’s real estate holdings with the addition of 11 marina and storage facilities, nearly doubling the company’s marina portfolio, a statement said.

“The acquisition aligns with our long-term strategy to grow the boating lifestyle and support those who already love it,” Brett McGill, chief executive officer and president of MarineMax, said in the statement. “We are excited to have Mike Pretasky Jr. join our management team and lead our new locations.”
