Recognized for its philanthropic contributions to the Tampa Bay region, the Florida Small Business Development Center at the University of South Florida was awarded a 2018 Lighting the Way Award and $75,000 grant by the SunTrust Foundation.

►LifePath Hospice opened an 8,500-square-foot facility on the fourth floor of Tampa General Hospital’s east pavilion, to provide short-term, around-the-clock care for individuals who have terminal illnesses and require acute medical care.

►Waldrop Engineering added Victor Barbosa as director of engineering, to lead its Tampa office.

►Great Lakes Dredge & Dock, a provider of dredging, environmental and infrastructure services, received a $48 million base contract to work on the Big Bend Channel of the Port of Tampa Bay.

►Florida Funders announced a $1.22 million investment in Pickup, a “last-mile” delivery platform for large or heavy retail products; the service features Good Guys, a network of military veterans, first responders and handy professionals.

►The Tampa Downtown Partnership received the International Downtown Association’s 2018 Downtown Achievement Award of Excellence for its work and initiatives related to the Downtowner ride program.

►Aakash Patel, founder and president of Elevate, was reappointed by then-Govenor Rick Scott to the Early Learning Coalition of Hillsborough.

Tampa-based labor and employment law firm Johnson Jackson was ranked as a top-tier 2019 “Best Law Firm” by U.S. News and World Report.

►Atlas Professional Services acquired a 6,470-square-foot building at 3415 W. Horatio Street, Tampa, for $1.45 million.

►HCP Associates, in Tampa, named Robert Allen Jr. as the firm’s vice president.
