WHAT CHALLENGES HAVE YOU FACED IN YOUR CAREER? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THOSE CHALLENGES?
I left Puerto Rico and moved to the United States, alone at 17 years old, to get my degree at the University of South Florida. I lived paycheck to paycheck as a first-time anchor/reporter in Massachusetts after graduating. Early in my career, a talent coach told me I wouldn’t make it in television news because of my accent. At times, I was the target of racist comments from viewers.
How did I overcome? I kept going.
