Karen Holbrook to retire as USF Sarasota-Manatee regional chancellor

Karen Holbrook, regional chancellor of the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee campus, will retire at the end of the year, concluding a six-year tenure.

Appointed in 2018, Holbrook led the Sarasota-Manatee campus through several major changes including its transformation into a residential campus, with this fall’s opening of the Student Center and Atala Residence Hall. Under her leadership, the campus also secured the largest gift in its history, resulting in the 2022 naming of The Baldwin Group School of Risk Management and Insurance.

“Joining USF Sarasota-Manatee has been a treasured experience,” Holbrook said. “It has been a privilege to lead this remarkable community, and I look forward to witnessing all that the university achieves in the future.”

Holbrook’s career includes leadership roles at universities across the country including president of The Ohio State University and holding senior roles at USF in global affairs, research and innovation.

Brett Kemker, regional vice chancellor and vice provost of academic affairs and student success, will serve as interim regional chancellor starting in January.
