Empath Health names organization’s first chief philanthropy officer

Jo-Lynn Brown January 15, 2025

Empath Health has appointed Deborah Johnson as its first chief philanthropy officer, a move aimed at unifying the organization’s philanthropic efforts across its four foundations.

The Clearwater-based nonprofit said the new leadership role will strengthen its ability to meet growing demands and expand its mission. Each foundation will maintain its local focus, and identity while aligning under a shared vision.

The four foundations under Johnson’s leadership include the Suncoast Hospice Foundation, in Pinellas County, the Tidewell Foundation, serving Sarasota and surrounding counties, the Hospice of Marion County Foundation and the Trustbridge Hospice Foundation, which serves Palm Beach and Broward counties.

Johnson, who has led the Trustbridge Hospice Foundation since 2022, will focus on building donor relationships, expanding innovative programs and fostering colleague engagement, according to a statement.

Empath Health also recognized the contributions of Kathy Rabon, president of the Suncoast Hospice Foundation, who plans to retire. Rabon will assist in the transition process as the organization searches for her successor.
