USF receives record $2.5 million gift for arts college

Jo-Lynn Brown Published: March 21, 2025 | Updated: March 21, 2025

The University of South Florida has received a $2.5 million donation from Pete and Cynthia Zinober, marking the largest gift in the history of its College of Design, Art and Performance. The donation will support arts programs and rename the School of Music’s concert venue as the Peter and Cynthia Zinober Concert Hall.

The 450-seat hall hosts performances by students, faculty and guest artists. The Zinobers, longtime supporters of USF and the arts, have deep ties to the Tampa Bay cultural community. Pete, a former attorney, has served in leadership roles with The Florida Orchestra and state arts organizations. Cynthia, former director of the Henry B. Plant Museum, helped expand its funding and accreditation.

“We are profoundly grateful for the legacy Pete and Cynthia are leaving, which will inspire and benefit our students for generations to come,” said USF Foundation chief executive officer Jay Stroman.
