Tampa General names president for Medical & Research District

Tampa General Hospital has named Jennifer Crabtree as president of the Tampa Medical & Research District, effective Oct. 1.

Crabtree, who will also serve as senior vice president of Tampa General, will lead the strategic direction and continued development of the district, a growing hub of health care, research and biotechnology tied to Tampa General and the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine.

“Jennifer has been an exceptional leader and an invaluable strategic partner in the growth and development of the Tampa Medical & Research District, since its inception,” said John Couris, president and chief executive officer of Tampa General Hospital, in a statement.

The district is part of Tampa General’s capital investment strategy to attract physicians, researchers, educators and biotech companies to the region.

Crabtree will also oversee the TMRD Advisory Committee, a group of local leaders and executives helping guide the district’s long-term strategy. Members include representatives from Tampa General, the University of Tampa, USF Health, TECO Energy, Tampa Bay EDC and others across sectors such as education, real estate and technology.

The district spans more than 1,500 acres in the Tampa metro area and includes Tampa General’s main hospital campus, the USF Morsani College of Medicine, the University of Tampa and the newly opened TGH Behavioral Health Hospital, among other facilities.

Crabtree previously served as vice president of corporate communications and chief of staff to the CEO at Tampa General. She has led strategic projects for the hospital including development of the district.
