Two Shumaker attorneys appointed Officers of the Hillsborough County Bar Association Young Lawyers Division Board of Directors

Shumaker lawyers Sarah S. Jawad and Hillary E. Thornton have been appointed to the Hillsborough County Bar Association Young Lawyers Division (HCBA YLD) Board of Directors, where they will serve as officers and support the professional development of young attorneys.

The HCBA YLD has approximately 1,000 members who are younger than 36 years of age or have been practicing for fewer than five years.

The mission of the YLD is to support the initiatives and goals of the HCBA, promote professionalism and ethical conduct, provide guidance to new lawyers, provide educational opportunities, organize programs and events of interest to young lawyers, and encourage community involvement.

Sara has been an active member of the HCBA YLD, serving as a Chair of the Member Services Committee (2023-2024) and currently as a Liaison to the Hillsborough County Bar Foundation.

Hillary has also shown commitment to Hillsborough County’s legal community, serving as the Historian for the 2024-2025 year, graduating from the Hillsborough Association for Women Lawyers (HAWL) Leadership Academy and serving as a Chair of the Hillsborough County Bar Association Bar Leadership Institute (2023-2024).

Both Sara and Hillary are associates in Shumaker’s Litigation and Disputes Service Line.
