Port Tampa Bay to receive $1.8 million for climate and air quality improvements

Port Tampa Bay will receive $1.8 million in grant funding, from the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s Clean Ports Program, to support an emissions reduction strategy for port infrastructure aimed at achieving zero-emission operations over time.

The funding will be used to develop a baseline air emissions inventory that will inform the emissions reduction strategy and engage port and community stakeholders in long-term planning. The project will explore the feasibility of renewable energy technologies including electric, battery-electric, hydrogen fuel cell and green fuel technologies.

The study will outline goals, tracking, reporting, technology deployment, infrastructure upgrades, renewable energy procurement, stakeholder engagement and funding strategies.

The total project cost is $2 million, with the Environmental Protection Agency providing $1.8 million and Port Tampa Bay securing $200,000 in local funding.
