The Moxy offers a stylish haven in dowtown St. Pete (PHOTOS)

St. Petersburg has a new place to gather, stay and play with the arrival of Moxy St. Pete. Developed through a partnership between PTM Partners and DoveHill, and managed by the Wurzak Hotel Group, the hotel brings Marriott’s Moxy brand to the heart of the city. The property joins the landscape near Tropicana Field, seamlessly integrating into St. Pete’s vibrant downtown scene.

Thanks to the top-tier, energetic staff and a design that sparks joy, Moxy St. Pete proves itself as more than just a stay—it’s an experience.

A Bold Take on Boutique Hospitality

At Moxy St. Pete, it’s hard not to lighten up. This trendy, dog-friendly hotel is a blend of Miami’s vibrance, New York City’s sophistication and the laid-back surfer vibe of the Tampa Bay Beaches. The designers at Storyn Studio for Architecture captured St. Pete’s eclectic spirit in every corner.

With 163 guest rooms, and suites, Moxy St. Pete keeps the design minimalist and efficient. True to Moxy’s space-saving philosophy, each room reflects Marriott’s collaboration with Ikea, incorporating smart storage and space-saving details that prioritize function over luxury. There are no frills here—no in-room refrigerators and ice buckets must be requested. But with a lively rooftop pool and other communal spaces, guests won’t be in their rooms long enough to miss it.

A Pool with a View

Beyond the stylish guest rooms, the hotel stands out with the Edge District’s first rooftop pool deck. The poolside bar offers a perfect setting to soak in city views and Florida’s famous sunshine. During a recent visit, I found myself basking in what I call “Florida fall”—the sunny, mild weather that makes poolside lounging ideal. While the pool is small and fills up quickly, securing a cabana adds a touch of exclusivity. It’s a worthwhile splurge for comfort and guaranteed poolside seating.

Location Meets Local Flavor

Moxy St. Pete’s location on Central Avenue, in the EDGE Collective development, provides an ideal setting for exploration. Just a short stroll from Tropicana Field, the hotel’s guests can easily dive into a variety of nearby restaurants, bars and shops. The district is bustling with local gems, including Hawker’s, Bavaro’s, and Ferg’s, all just steps from Moxy. A word from experience: consider sticking to walking or driving; electric scooters may seem fun until they’re not.

Sparrow St. Pete, a newly-opened rooftop dining experience, adjacent to the pool area, is now open. Designed to be an intimate urban escape, Sparrow has an ambiance of adventure. Additionally, the poolside dining at Moxy and the district’s eateries offer ample options to savor local flavors.

Moxy’s Signature Appeal

Marriott’s Moxy Hotels have become popular with Gen Z and millennials, who embrace the “work anywhere with Wi-Fi” ethos. Each Moxy property is designed with a work-play balance in mind, creating spaces that are as functional for remote work as they are enjoyable for leisure. Moxy St. Pete delivers on this promise with vibrant communal areas that embody Marriott’s signature bar-as-front-desk concept, where guests can check in with a cocktail. The hotel’s rooftop lounge, eclectic lobby and trendy pool deck ensure it’s not just a place to stay—it’s a lively destination for locals and visitors alike.

The Staff Wins the Gold

From the valet to the pool bar, Moxy’s team deserves a shoutout for their friendliness and genuine passion. Their enthusiasm and attention to detail elevate the experience, matching what I’ve come to expect from the finest Disney resorts. This outstanding service, alone, will bring me back to Moxy St. Pete. ♦
