Valspar 2025 prepares to tee off in Tampa Bay

The Valspar Championship is set to return to Tampa Bay from March 17 to March 23, bringing with it the excitement of world-class golf, dynamic fan experiences and a robust commitment to community impact. Held at the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Golf Resort, the tournament continues to be a highlight on the PGA TOUR calendar and a major springtime event for the region.

More Than a Golf Tournament

With numerous events during Valspar Week, it’s a large-scale event that is much more than a golf tournament.

“The Valspar Championship has become more than just a golf tournament.  It’s a community happening,” says Gary Koch, a longtime supporter of the championship, broadcaster and former PGA TOUR player. “It’s an event where there’s something for everyone—young families, millennials, senior citizens and hardcore golf fans.”

This year’s tournament will deliver on that appeal. Beyond the competitive rounds of golf, featuring top-ranked players, fans can enjoy activities ranging from a live concert by country music star Jordan Davis to unique hospitality experiences like the Michelob ULTRA Club and the Publix Chillounge.

A Storied Venue

The Copperhead Course, known for its challenging layout, is a favorite among players. “It’s straightforward but demanding,” Koch explains. “The elevation changes and the absence of typical Florida palm trees make it unique. It’s a course that welcomes all styles of play, from power hitters to precision players.”

Adding to the allure is the family-friendly atmosphere at Innisbrook. Players often bring their families to enjoy the resort’s amenities, and the tournament’s organizers go out of their way to accommodate kids and families. This blend of elite competition and welcoming spirit is a hallmark of the event.

Leadership Behind the Scenes

Much of the tournament’s success can be attributed to the leadership of Tracy West, the tournament director. “[West] is clearly one of the top tournament directors on the PGA TOUR,” Koch says. “I think you talk to any of the players who are there at the Valspar Championship and they’ll echo those thoughts. We’re very fortunate to have her here in the Tampa Bay area and overseeing the Valspar Championship. She does a great job of recruiting players and she’s very visible. She’s very much in touch with what is going on with all the other events as well. It helps tremendously for her to have that knowledge.”

Community and Charity at the Heart

Charitable giving is central to the Valspar Championship’s mission. Since its inception, the tournament has raised millions for local charities. This year, significant initiatives include support for Habitat for Humanity and youth-focused organizations. “When you invest in young people, you’re investing in the future,” says Koch. “That’s what makes this event so impactful.”

One of the highlights of the week is Heroes Appreciation Day on March 20, when health care workers and first responders are celebrated with free or discounted tickets. Additionally, proceeds from the new Virtual Valspar Championship—a gaming event held in February—will benefit Clearwater for Youth, underscoring the tournament’s innovative approach to philanthropy.

A Week of Excitement

Here are some key events and highlights to mark on your calendar:

March 16: Publix Copperhead 5K Run/Walk

March 18: Kids Day at the Valspar Championship (featuring family-friendly events and activities)

March 20: Peter Malnati Bucket Hat Day (first 500 fans receive a free bucket hat)

March 20: Heroes Appreciation Day (free admission for first responders and health care workers)

March 22: Valspar LIVE presented by Chick-fil-A concert featuring Jordan Davis (included with Saturday ticket)

Economic Impact and Regional Pride

The Valspar Championship is an economic driver for the Tampa Bay region. “The entire community rallies around this event,” Koch says. From the stunning aerial shots of local beaches to the sponsorships from area businesses, the tournament showcases Tampa Bay’s beauty, and vibrancy, to a global audience.

The Valspar Championship continues to set the standard for PGA TOUR events. As Koch emphasizes, the partnership with Valspar as a long-term title sponsor has been pivotal. “It allows the organizers to think ahead, try new things and build on past successes,” he says.

Whether you’re a die-hard golf fan or simply looking for a great way to spend a day in the Florida sunshine, the 2025 Valspar Championship has something for everyone. Mark your calendars and join the celebration of sport, community and impact.
