20 Questions with Gilbert Broco

Gilbert Broco has a background in architecture and interior design. Raised in Puerto Rico, he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Design Architecture from the University of Puerto Rico, in 2002. Relocating to Florida in 2006, Broco obtained NCIDQ Certification and became a Florida Registered Interior Designer, establishing himself as a leading figure in the field. 

Broco has served as the president of the International Interior Design Association Central Florida Chapter and a Trustee of the International Interior Design Foundation for two terms, serving as the chair. 

Beyond his organizational affiliations, Broco is engaged in various leadership roles within the Tampa Bay community. He is part of the executive board of Leadership Tampa Bay, he is a member of the USF Leadership and Innovation Forum of Tampa and the CEO Council of Tampa Bay.

Recognized for his contributions, he received the Professional Impact Award from IIDA Florida Central Chapter, in 2021, and Chief Operating Officer of the Year Award from Tampa Bay Business and Wealth’s Apogee Awards in 2022.

3. Preferred place for a business meeting? Buddy Brew Downtown Tampa. 

4. Most used phone app? Instagram.

5. What time do you wake up on workdays? 7 a.m.

6. What’s a life hack you swear by? Anything that comes to mind I write it on my iPhone Notes. If it is not there, I will forget or it never happened.

7. First album/cassette tape/CD you remember buying? The Bodyguard Soundtrack.

8. Favorite local restaurant? Boulon Brasserie. ⬅️

9. Last book you read? Cathedral of the Sea by Ildefonso Falcones.

10. Biggest business failure? Whenever I lose faith and trust in someone I work with.

11. What was your first cell phone? Motorola Razor.

12. Something you cook really well? Breakfast sandwiches or desserts.

13. Most famous person you’ve ever met? Barack Obama. ➡️

14. What is the last thing that made you laugh, really hard? Just saw Jo Koy’s stand up on Netflix.

15. What is a movie you will NEVER watch again? The Strangers.

16. Last place you traveled for fun? Breckenridge, Colorado. 

17. What was your first car? 1995 VW Jetta. 

18. Charity you support? Feeding Tampa Bay. 

19. What is something silly you got in trouble for as a child? Playing with my sister’s Barbies (it was very different times back then). 

20. Best advice ever received? Always believe that people come to you with a positive intent in mind and not ulterior motives.
