Attorney, civic leader and public education advocate Sean Shaw has been named chairman of the board for the Hillsborough Education Foundation, stepping into the role on May 29.
Shaw, who previously served in the Florida House of Representatives and was the state’s first African American nominee for attorney general, brings decades of legal experience and public service to the nonprofit, which supports Hillsborough County’s public school students and educators. He succeeds Chris Taylor, who has held the board chair role since 2023, and will continue serving as a board member.
A graduate of Princeton University and the University of Florida’s law school, Shaw is an attorney at Tampa-based firm Swope, Rodante.
During the 2023–2024 academic year, the foundation awarded more than $1.4 million in scholarships to help students from low-income families continue their education.
“I’m honored to serve as chairman of the board for Hillsborough Education Foundation,” Shaw said. “Public education shaped my life, and I believe every student deserves the same chance to succeed—especially in a district as large and diverse as Hillsborough County, which serves more than 220,000 students.”
