Every woman deserves care that meets her where she is, whether that means a routine annual visit, a high-risk pregnancy or a complex gynecologic condition. The TGH Women’s Institute provides exactly that: a full continuum of women’s health services, backed by national recognition and the strength of Florida’s premier academic health system™.
From routine obstetrics and gynecology to the most complex maternal-fetal medicine and subspecialty care, the TGH Women’s Institute connects patients to the highest level of expertise in the region. Through its partnership with the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine, TGH brings patients face-to-face with specialists who are shaping the future of women’s health.
A Record That Speaks for Itself
Tampa General ranks among the nation’s top 25 hospitals for Obstetrics & Gynecology, according to U.S. News & World Report for 2026-27. The hospital also earned a spot on Newsweek’s 2026 list of the World’s Best Specialized Hospitals for Obstetrics & Gynecology and is the only hospital in Hillsborough County to hold the international Baby-Friendly® designation.
These distinctions carry real meaning. They reflect a standard of care validated by independent, global authorities.
“Over the course of a woman’s life, there are many normal changes that can require a comprehensive approach, as well as questions that require unique expertise,” said Dr. Anjali Kaimal, chief of the TGH Women’s Institute and chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine. “We have the ability to care for all those aspects of your health.”
Comprehensive, Advanced Care for Women’s Unique Needs
The TGH Women’s Institute offers nationally recognized centers and programs designed to meet women at every stage of life:
- Expert gynecology care from board-certified surgeons specializing in gynecologic oncology, minimally invasive surgery, reproductive endocrinology and infertility, pediatric and adolescent gynecology, and reconstructive pelvic surgery.
- Individualized prenatal care, including certified nurse midwives who support physiologic birth.
- High-risk pregnancy care from maternal-fetal medicine specialists, working alongside cardiologists, geneticists and pediatric subspecialists across USF Health.
- The USF Health | TGH Fetal Care Center, offering specialized prenatal and fetal care for the most complex diagnoses.
This care is built around you. Your treatment plan reflects your specific needs, your health history and your goals, drawing on the full resources of an academic health system.
Five Centers of Excellence in Gynecologic Surgery
The TGH Women’s Institute delivers surgical excellence across five specialized areas of women’s care, with recognition from the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC). These distinctions are encompassed by the SRC’s prestigious Center of Excellence in Women’s Integrated Surgical Health (COEWISH) designation, which recognizes excellence across the full continuum of gynecologic surgical care.
- Minimally Invasive Gynecological Surgery
- Robotic Surgery
- Complex Endometriosis Care
- Continence Care for Women (Urogynecology)
- Gynecologic Surgical Oncology
Every designation was earned through rigorous, data-driven evaluation. Every one reflects the standard of care you deserve.
Leadership That Sets the Standard
The institute’s strength begins with its people, and that depth of expertise is visible across every specialty it serves. Jessica Brumley, PhD, APRN, CNM, exemplifies that commitment: she leads the Midwifery Program – which has over 40 years at TGH – and currently serves as president of the American College of Nurse-Midwives, bringing national leadership directly to patient care. In gynecologic imaging, Dr. Lauri Hochberg has earned international recognition for her work, directing the program for both TGH and USF Health. Dr. Emad Mikhail is regarded as one of the world’s top endometriosis surgeons, drawing patients who need highly specialized surgical expertise. Dr. Sarah Obican leads maternal-fetal medicine research, advancing care for women navigating high-risk pregnancies. And Dr. Courtney Mascoe fills a critical gap in women’s health: she specializes in pediatric and adolescent gynecology, a field with very few formally trained specialists in the country.
Guiding this team is Dr. Kaimal, who joined USF Health in 2022 and was unanimously chosen to lead its OB-GYN program. Dr. Charles J. Lockwood, executive vice president of USF Health and chief academic officer of Tampa General Hospital, described her leadership as a rare combination of clinical excellence and deep compassion for patients.
“This is a group of people who are always trying to do better, learning from others, innovating and sharing knowledge,” Dr. Kaimal said. “There’s no one-size-fits-all solution. Our job is to use the best evidence to create a plan that helps patients achieve their goals for their health.”
Care That Stays With You
Women’s health is not a single moment. It spans decades of change, and every stage deserves the right support. The TGH Women’s Institute offers that continuity: from adolescent gynecology and family planning to high-risk obstetrics and beyond.
You should not have to navigate that journey alone. Our team coordinates your care across specialties, so you always know what comes next and who is in your corner.
Rooted in academic medicine and strengthened by its partnership with the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine, the TGH Women’s Institute delivers comprehensive, compassionate care for women at every stage of life.
