USF hires Arkansas State’s Bryan Hodgson as men’s basketball coach

Jo-Lynn Brown March 27, 2025

Bryan Hodgson has been named head coach of the University of South Florida men’s basketball team.

Hodgson joins USF after two seasons as head coach at Arkansas State, where he led the program to back-to-back, 20-win seasons and two post-season appearances, including the school’s first National Invitation Tournament berth in over 30 years. In the 2024-25 season, the Red Wolves posted a program-best 25-11 record and won the Sun Belt Conference regular-season title.

He becomes the 12th head coach in USF men’s basketball history.

“Bryan has been a part of winning programs at every level, demonstrating a remarkable ability to recruit top talent, develop players and build championship-caliber teams,” said USF Vice President for Athletics Michael Kelly.

Before Arkansas State, Hodgson served as an assistant coach at Alabama, under Nate Oats, from 2019 to 2023. During his time in Tuscaloosa, the Crimson Tide advanced to the NCAA Tournament in three consecutive seasons and produced six NBA draft picks. He also helped lead Alabama to SEC regular-season and tournament championships, in 2023.

Off the court, he is the founder of Coaching Love, a nonprofit focused on raising awareness for foster children and at-risk youth. Details about Hodgson’s introductory press conference will be announced soon.
