Pinellas beach mayors to discuss beach conditions; county extends storm compliance deadline

Jo-Lynn Brown April 15, 2025

The Institute for Strategic Policy Solutions and the Pinellas Beaches Chamber will host a public forum featuring updates from local beach mayors on the state of beaches in Pinellas County, while the county separately announced extended deadlines for storm-damaged property compliance.

The mayoral forum will be moderated by former Bay News 9 anchor Al Ruechel and will include Mayors John Doctor of Treasure Island and Anne-Marie Brooks of Madeira Beach.

Scheduled for April 24, from 5:30 to 7 p.m., the event is accessible, virtually, via the ISPS website or in person, at Madeira Beach City Hall, located at 300 Municipal Drive in Madeira Beach. A reception to meet the mayors will follow the discussion.

Advance registration is required for in-person attendance. Interested attendees can register here.

Additionally, Pinellas County has announced an extension for compliance deadlines related to properties substantially damaged by recent storms. The new compliance deadline is June 1, 2026, applying to property owners in unincorporated areas impacted by Hurricanes Milton and Helene.

Property owners who wish to appeal their substantial damage determination through a reassessment application must file by May 31, 2025. The county urges residents to collaborate with insurance providers, licensed contractors and the Building and Development Review Services Department for assistance.

For further support with the compliance process, property owners can contact the Building and Development Review Services Department at (727) 464-3888, option 5, or visit pinellas.gov.
