Exclusive: Sweetheart Ice Cream names new COO

Jerry Telson has been named chief operating officer at Sweetheart Ice Cream, in Tampa.

Sweetheart Ice Cream is a concessionaire of major brands like Ben & Jerry’s, Breyer’s, Good Humor and Magnum, just to name a few, to retailers throughout the west coast of Florida. The company has now expanded its offerings to include dairy and other refrigerated items.

“What excites me in this new role is the growth of Sweetheart Ice Cream and its commitment to giving back to the community,” says Telson. “It’s a people-focused company. When you join the company, you’re a part of the family.”

Telson most recently was corporate vice president of strategy and development for FLAVORx. And before then he was director of pharmacy and retail operations for Walgreens.

He serves on the boards of AdventHealth, the American Cancer Society and the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation.

“I’m all about that mindset and the things that are important to him are aligned with things that are important to me. It was a match made in heaven,” says Suhail Rifaie, chief executive officer of Sweetheart Ice Cream. “We both were aligned from the first conversation.
