Things to Do: The Subversive Eye opens at The Dalí Museum

Explore Surrealism’s influence on photography
Jo-Lynn Brown December 23, 2024

The Dalí Museum is running its newest exhibition, The Subversive Eye: Surrealist and Experimental Photography from the David Raymond Collection.

This exhibition features over 100 rare works by 50 artists, highlighting the evolution of experimental photography, from 1925 to 1948.

The exhibition connects avant-garde movements from Eastern Europe, Germany and Japan, with works by artists such as Eileen Agar, Dora Maar, Lee Miller and Man Ray.

The works are part of the David Raymond Collection, recognized for its global perspective. Raymond has spent over 25 years redefining the boundaries of surrealist photography.

Visitors can engage with interactive elements like a “Photo Studio,” encouraging surrealist-inspired smartphone photography, and the Dream Tapestry, which uses AI to transform personal dreams into artistic black-and-white images.

The Subversive Eye is presented by Marion R. Rich, with additional sponsorship from Ingrid & Jake Jacobus, Adele Visaggio, St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport and TradeWinds Resort.
