Habitat for Humanity breaks ground on first Hernando County home

Habitat for Humanity Tampa Bay Gulfside broke ground on its first home in Hernando County.

The nonprofit announced its expansion into Hernando County in 2024, and rebranded as Habitat for Humanity Tampa Bay Gulfside later in the year.

Habitat Tampa Bay Gulfside has served over 900 families since its founding nearly 40 years ago. The organization’s model relies on volunteer labor and partnerships with future homeowners, who contribute hundreds of hours of “sweat equity” and complete a homebuyer education program. Homes are sold at no profit and financed with zero-interest loans, with mortgage payments helping fund future projects.
