USF receives $3 million estate gift from alumnus Mike Crew to support engineering students

The University of South Florida has received a $3 million estate gift from alumnus Mike Crew, to support students and initiatives within the College of Engineering.

The gift includes $1.5 million to expand an existing scholarship Crew established in 2017, $1 million to create the Michael W. Crew Professorship for Industrial and Management Systems Engineering and $500,000 for a new lecture series.

“The University of South Florida is so grateful to Mike Crew for his support,” said USF President Rhea Law. “His gift will provide new scholarship opportunities and enhance the programs that had such a significant impact on his own life.”

Crew earned a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from USF, in 1976, and went on to work for more than two decades as an engineer and technology manager. In 1993, he founded Homeowner Management Services, a homeowners association management company.

“I’ve always used my engineering knowledge in some way, shape or form. It’s been critical to my success in life and my enjoyment,” Crew said.

Crew began giving back to USF, just two years after graduating, with a $25 donation to the USF Library. He has remained a longtime donor to the College of Engineering and the USF Alumni Association.
