FrankCrum buys longtime technology partner Haneke Design

FrankCrum has acquired software development firm Haneke Design, bringing technology development in-house as the Clearwater-based professional employer organization expands the digital tools it offers to thousands of small-business clients.

Terms of the transaction weren’t disclosed.

The deal gives FrankCrum direct control over software engineering, product design and development teams that have helped build portions of the company’s human-resources technology platform. FrankCrum serves more than 4,800 businesses nationwide that collectively employ more than 90,000 workers.

The acquisition comes as professional employer organizations and payroll providers increasingly compete through technology platforms that help businesses manage hiring, payroll, benefits and compliance. Rather than relying solely on outside vendors, FrankCrum is bringing a longtime technology partner under its corporate umbrella.

Haneke Design, which has operated in the Tampa Bay region for more than 20 years, develops software applications and user-experience tools for businesses. FrankCrum said the companies have worked together for years and that Haneke played a role in developing several of its technology applications.

“Over the years, Haneke has been instrumental in helping us launch and evolve multiple technology applications where thoughtful design and intuitive user experiences became true differentiators for our business,” said Matt Crum, FrankCrum’s co-president.

FrankCrum said it plans to incorporate Haneke’s software development practices and artificial intelligence workflows into its core platform to reduce administrative burdens for clients.

The acquisition gives FrankCrum access to Haneke’s software engineers, product designers and project-management teams. Company executives said those capabilities will help strengthen the firm’s human-resources information system and accelerate future product development.

“Joining FrankCrum allows us to scale our impact in a meaningful way,” said Jody Haneke, chief executive officer of Haneke Design. “Together with FrankCrum, we can build technology solutions that are sophisticated yet approachable, helping small businesses operate more efficiently while creating a better overall user experience.”

Founded in 1981, FrankCrum provides payroll, human resources and workers’ compensation services through its professional employer organization platform. Haneke Design will become part of the FrankCrum organization following the acquisition.
