Glazer JCC plans 21,000-square-foot preschool in South Tampa

The Tampa Jewish Community Center is planning a 21,208-square-foot preschool at its Howard Avenue campus that could serve approximately 184 students, according to documents submitted to the City of Tampa.

The Maureen and Douglas Cohn JCC Preschool would occupy existing space within the Shanna and Bryan Glazer JCC, the organization’s 100,000-square-foot community campus at 522 N. Howard Ave. Plans also call for space to accommodate approximately 26 employees.

At more than 21,000 square feet, the preschool would occupy roughly one-fifth of the facility.

Plans call for converting existing office and retail space within the Howard Avenue campus into classrooms and related educational facilities.

The Tampa JCC opened the Howard Avenue facility in 2016 after redeveloping the former Fort Homer Hesterly Armory into a community center. The campus includes fitness facilities, aquatics programming, recreation space, cultural programming and gathering areas used by members and community organizations throughout the Tampa Bay region.

The property is part of the former Fort Homer Hesterly Armory site, which the organization controls through a long-term ground lease with the Armory Board of the State of Florida.
