Playa Bowls is planning a Tampa restaurant in the Channel District, bringing the national açaí bowl chain to East Madison Street as it continues expanding across Florida.
Plans submitted to the City of Tampa show a 1,135-square-foot Playa Bowls restaurant at 1244 E. Madison St., where vacant ground-floor space at the Inscription apartment community would be converted into a quick-service restaurant with seating for 14 customers. The interior renovation includes a new kitchen and dining area.
The restaurant would occupy retail space across from Madison Street Park in a neighborhood that combines apartment communities, offices and entertainment venues, including Water Street, Sparkman Wharf and Benchmark International Arena.
The location places the restaurant within one of downtown Tampa’s busiest concentrations of residents, workers and visitors.
Playa Bowls operates hundreds of franchised locations nationwide and has expanded across Florida in recent years.
The permit applications do not identify an opening date, and the company has not publicly announced the downtown Tampa location.
