Tampa International Airport will close all four lanes of its Red Departures drive beginning Aug. 31 for a $1.2 million resurfacing project scheduled to continue through mid-October.
The closure begins at 7 a.m. Travelers being dropped off for Red Side airlines will instead be directed to the Red Express Curbsides.
The Hillsborough County Aviation Authority Board of Directors approved a $1.2 million contract with Restocon Corp. in May for the rehabilitation project. Crews will remove and replace the traffic coating on all four lanes of the Red Departures drive as part of scheduled maintenance.
Travelers checking bags can use curbside bag check-in at Red Express. Those who already have boarding passes and are not checking bags can take the Red Express escalators or elevators to the third level, where they can access the shuttle to their airside.
Airport staff and signs will direct passengers who need to reach the Ticketing level to the second floor of the Main Terminal.
The closure affects passengers flying Air Canada, Alaska Airlines, Avelo Airlines, Breeze Airways, British Airways, Discover Airlines, Edelweiss Air, Frontier, Southwest Airlines, Sun Country Airlines and WestJet.
The project follows similar resurfacing work on TPA’s Blue Departures drive last summer.
