The $35 million Mary W. Sierra Family YMCA in Wesley Chapel is nearing completion and is scheduled to open this month, putting membership and program registration underway as the Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCA prepares to staff a facility expected to create more than 300 jobs.
The 49,319-square-foot YMCA, at 4379 Wellbeing Way, is already beginning to shift from construction to operations. Its indoor and outdoor playgrounds are complete, gym and cycling equipment is in place and crews are finishing the group exercise studios, while furniture has arrived for the lobby, offices and outdoor pavilion.
With those spaces nearing completion, registration has opened for youth sports, swim lessons, Kids’ Day Out and other programs, with more scheduled to follow before the doors open.
Those programs are being built for a service area the YMCA says includes more than 40,000 households within minutes of the facility and nearly 20,000 seniors.
Meeting that demand will require a sizable workforce, with the YMCA now recruiting for programs serving children, teens, adults and seniors as the project moves toward its September opening and more than 300 expected Pasco County jobs.
