Tampa Bay Business Women Awards 2023: Veronica Cintron

Jo-Lynn Brown April 13, 2023

Veronica Cintron joined the Hillsborough County Aviation Authority in April 2020. Before joining TIA, she anchored Spectrum Bay News 9’s weekday evening newscasts for 10 years.

WHAT CHALLENGES HAVE YOU FACED IN YOUR CAREER? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THOSE CHALLENGES?

I left Puerto Rico and moved to the United States, alone at 17 years old, to get my degree at the University of South Florida. I lived paycheck to paycheck as a first-time anchor/reporter in Massachusetts after graduating. Early in my career, a talent coach told me I wouldn’t make it in television news because of my accent. At times, I was the target of racist comments from viewers.

How did I overcome? I kept going.
