Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas and West Pasco Counties hosted a volunteer build day, exclusively for the finalists of Tampa Bay Business and Wealth’s 2024 Women Who Win awards.

The Women Who Win Build Day named, “Hammers and Heels,” took place at 2714 and 2166 16th Ave. S., St. Petersburg.

The finalists volunteered alongside two future homeowners, Ashley Skelton and Denise Cookinson. The two will live next to each other in their new Habitat Homes.

One of the big sayings that was heard throughout the build day, by a number of volunteers, was “strong women helping strong women.”

“Habitat was thrilled to partner with Tampa Bay Business and Wealth Magazine for a special build day to honor the Women Who Win finalists,” says Habitat president and chief executive officer Mike Sutton. “We are grateful to these strong women from our community for volunteering alongside two future homeowners, both single moms. Habitat is also proud to be the nonprofit sponsor of the 2024 Women Who Win Awards.”

Denise Cookinson is a single mom to a teenage son, Grayson. The Cookinson family, who had their home landscaped by the Women Who Win, will celebrate their home dedication on May 8.

Ashley Skelton is the proud mom of three kids – sons Ja’Quis and Roget and daughter Au’Dayshia. The Skelton Family will earn their keys in a home dedication on May 20.

TBBW will celebrate all the finalists during their Women Who Win awards event, on April 19, at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, in Tampa.
