Gulf Coast Sourdough spins off wholesale business to Bavaro Hospitality

Gulf Coast Sourdough, a wholesale bakery in Tampa, sold a part of its business to Tampa-based Bavaro’s Hospitality.

The sale includes Gulf Coast Sourdough’s baking facility, in Sulphur Springs, and its associated assets. The restaurant and retail shop, Gulf Coast Sourdough Sandwich House, will remain independent and continue to operate out of its current location, at 6703 N. Florida Ave., in Seminole Heights.

“Gulf Coast Sourdough has built a strong wholesale business over the past nine years, and we’re excited to incorporate it into the Bavaro family,” said Dan Bavaro, founder of Bavaro Hospitality. “We share similar origins and food philosophies, and it’s a natural fit with our plans for further growing our presence in the region, as the newest chapter of Bavaro’s Sunshine Sourdough.”

The wholesale business will continue to serve existing restaurants, groceries and farmer’s markets under the label of “Sunshine Sourdough by Bavaro’s.”

Founded in 2009, by Dan Bavaro, and his family, Bavaro’s specializes in Neapolitan pizza, using hand-crafted, wood-fired brick ovens designed by third-generation Neapolitan craftsmen, Neapolitan recipes and ingredients sourced directly from Italy. Bavaro’s has five locations in Tampa Bay, including Tampa International Airport and Amalie Arena Bavaro’s.
