Operation Blue Roof assistance available for Tampa Bay residents with Hurricane roof damage

Residents across the Tampa Bay region including those in Pinellas, Hillsborough and surrounding counties, who have suffered roof damage from Hurricane Milton can now apply for temporary blue tarp assistance through the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and FEMA’s Operation Blue Roof program.

This initiative provides a temporary solution to prevent further damage to homes by offering professionally installed blue tarps. The deadline to apply is Tuesday, Nov. 5.

Impacted homeowners can register online at BlueRoof.gov or by calling 888-ROOF-BLU (888-766-3258). Applicants will need to provide a valid driver’s license, or other proof of residency.

The program is available for primary residences and permanently occupied rental properties that have sustained less than 50% structural damage. Vacation rentals, as well as homes with flat, metal, clay, slate or asbestos tile roofs, are not eligible. Eligible roofs must be made of standard shingles or similar materials that allow for tarp installation. In some cases, repairs to metal roofs or mobile homes may be considered, with contractors making determinations on a case-by-case basis.

As part of the program, crews will remove homeowner-installed tarps and minor debris to ensure proper tarp installation. Homeowners are responsible for removing large debris such as fallen trees, before contractors can begin work.
