The University of South Florida has named Levi Thompson dean of the College of Engineering. Thompson previously served as dean at the University of Delaware’s College of Engineering and as a faculty member at the University of Michigan.
He will oversee faculty development, research and teaching programs, while advancing the college’s partnerships and strategic initiatives.
At Delaware, Thompson increased enrollment, doubled research expenditures and helped the college achieve its highest-ever U.S. News & World Report ranking. A member of the National Academy of Engineering, he has authored over 150 publications and holds 14 patents.
Thompson co-founded T/J Technologies, a nanomaterials developer, and Inmatech, a supercapacitor company. He earned degrees in chemical and nuclear engineering from the University of Michigan and the University of Delaware.
Thompson begins his new role in August of 2025.
