Streetwear retailer Social Status announces move to Ybor City (RENDERINGS)

The Whitaker Group plans to relocate its Social Status retail store to a new, larger space in Tampa’s historic Ybor City neighborhood. The move from Hyde Park to Ybor City is scheduled for spring, 2025.

The new 2,794-square-foot store, located at 1318 E 7th Ave., will be near landmarks significant to Tampa’s Cuban heritage including the “Cradle of Cuban Liberty,” where José Martí once spoke. The location aligns with the Whitaker Group’s aim to integrate retail experiences with community engagement.

The Ybor City location will introduce Tampa’s first “beSocial hub,” a space designed for hosting events and programs aimed at supporting local creatives, entrepreneurs and community leaders. Planned offerings include grassroots initiatives and free “Life Through Sports” programs such as Run Club, Hoop Club and Bike Club.

The relocation marks part of The Whitaker Group’s broader retail expansion strategy, following recent projects in Charlotte, North Carolina and Folly Beach, South Carolina.
