Jesuit High School receives $1.7 million gift for stained glass project

Jesuit High School has announced a $1.7 million donation to fund a major stained-glass installation inside the school’s Chapel of the Holy Cross. The gift, made by longtime benefactor Ray Hyer, will support the addition of sacred imagery depicting the crucifixion and resurrection.

The stained-glass windows were designed by American artist Kurt Wenner and will be installed this summer by Wisconsin-based Conrad Schmitt Studios. The windows will span the north and south walls of the 950-seat chapel, adding to earlier work above the altar and choir loft completed by the same studio.

The donation honors the memory of Kathleen Hyer and builds on the family’s legacy of giving to the school. The campus’s Hyer Family Park baseball stadium and Hyer Hall are also named in their honor.

Consecrated in 2018, the Chapel of the Holy Cross was designed by architect Duncan Stroik and features additional religious artwork by sculptor Cody Swanson and painter Raul Berzosa.

Jesuit High School of Tampa, established in 1899, is an all-boys Catholic school serving the Tampa Bay area.
