Power Design raises $60K for charity at annual Pirates & Pitmasters (PHOTOS)

Power Design raised more than $60,000 for local and national charities during its annual Pirates & Pitmasters celebration, at the company’s headquarters, in St. Petersburg.

The event brought together more than 1,200 employees for an afternoon of barbecue cookoffs, trade skills competitions and a themed treasure hunt—all aimed at supporting causes such as Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, the Alzheimer’s Association, Beth Dillinger Foundation and the PTSD Foundation of America.

Top winners in the “Amazing Race” treasure hunt and BBQ Cookoff each earned thousands of dollars in donations for their selected charities, with $10,000 going to the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital and $10,000 to the Beth Dillinger Foundation.

Other winners included teams representing Big Brothers Big Sisters, Moffitt Cancer Center, the PTSD Foundation of America and the Alzheimer’s Association.

The event also featured “The Tough Rougher,” a skills showdown in electrical, HVAC and plumbing trades. Representatives from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, including mascot Captain Fear and the cheer team, joined the festivities.

Power Design, a national design-build contractor, hosts the annual event to celebrate its workforce and give back to the community through charitable competition.
