Garrett Greco, a Tampa real estate broker and host of the Tampa Bay Developer podcast, filed Tuesday to run for Tampa City Council’s District 3 at-large seat, entering the race to succeed Council member Lynn Hurtak, who is running for mayor.
A first-time candidate, Greco serves on Tampa’s Land Development Code Advisory Team, which is reviewing proposed updates to the city’s development regulations, and previously served on the Charter Review Commission. Through his podcast, he has interviewed developers, city officials, neighborhood advocates, architects and business leaders about housing, transportation, land use and redevelopment. Greco said those conversations influenced his decision to seek office, telling viewers in his campaign announcement that “these conversations have shown us that how we grow matters.”
His campaign will focus on housing affordability, transportation, stormwater resiliency, neighborhood preservation, small business and growth management. In the announcement video, Greco called transportation “the biggest issue” facing Tampa and said infrastructure investments should keep pace with the city’s growth.
Greco is the grandson of former Tampa Mayor Dick Greco, who served four terms, and the son of former Hillsborough County Judge Dick Greco Jr. In his campaign announcement, he also pointed to his great-grandfather’s service on city boards and civic associations as part of his family’s history of public service.
District 3 is one of three at-large seats on the Tampa City Council and is elected citywide. Candidate qualifying for the nonpartisan election remains open.
