Mixed-use redevelopment planned for Stetson’s Tampa Law Center

Plans to redevelop Stetson University’s 6.5-acre Tampa Law Center property into a mixed-use district with a new law center, hotel, residential, office and retail space were announced Thursday.

The redevelopment would replace the existing law center at 1700 N. Tampa St. with a new academic facility while preserving classes and campus operations throughout construction. Stetson will retain ownership of the law center, have permanent access to the project’s hotel and parking garage and expects groundbreaking in late 2027.

Bromley Companies, the developer behind Midtown Tampa, is partnering with Stetson on the project. The property sits between downtown Tampa, the Heights District and the Hillsborough Riverwalk, where the redevelopment is planned as a pedestrian-oriented district combining academic, hospitality, residential, office and retail uses.

Stetson has owned the property for 25 years. University officials said the project will modernize the Tampa campus while expanding continuing education and degree programs.

“This partnership gives us the opportunity to reimagine our Tampa campus for the future,” Stetson University College of Law Dean Ben Barros said in a statement. “By integrating a modern Stetson law center into a larger mixed-use environment, we can create a more dynamic setting for legal education, expand continuing education and degree programs, and strengthen our connections to downtown, the Riverwalk, and the surrounding community.”

Neither Stetson nor Bromley disclosed the project’s estimated cost, development size or the number of residential units or hotel rooms. Additional details on the project’s design and phasing are expected as planning progresses.
