Derek Pupello is a third-generation Tampa native and founder of Five Labs, a premier bio skills training center serving the medical device industry. Since opening its flagship location, in Tampa’s Westshore district, Five Labs has trained thousands of health care professionals from around the world.
COVID shutdowns forced Pupello to cancel $1.5 million in booked events but his swift pivot to virtual labs and small in-person sessions kept the business alive. “Cutting expenses and retooling our model saved us,” he says.
Today, Pupello is expanding Five Labs, nationally, with new centers in Las Vegas and Boston, and he hopes to go international. He supports global and local nonprofits like One City Ministries, No More Foundation and I Matter Too.
