University Area CDC secures $14.9 million EPA grant for community revitalization

The University Area Community Development Corporation, in partnership with the University of South Florida and Hillsborough County, has received a $14.9 million grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to support community revitalization projects.

The funding will aid in constructing the Economic Development Center, at the University Area CDC’s Cultural Campus (rendering above). The center will focus on workforce development, small business support and health care services. It will also be LEED-certified for environmental sustainability.

“This grant is a transformative step forward for the University Area community,” said Dr. Sarah Combs, CEO of University Area CDC, in a statement. “With support from USF and Hillsborough County, we are building a stronger, healthier future.”

The grant aims to drive the area’s environmental, social and economic transformation, creating new opportunities and sustainable development.
