USF reveals new renderings of Football Operations Center

Chuck Merlis November 7, 2025

The University of South Florida has released new renderings of the TGH Center for Athletic Excellence, a 150,000-square-foot football operations facility that will anchor the university’s $348 million on-campus stadium project. The complex is scheduled to open in fall 2027 and will serve as the future home of USF Football.

The new building will be directly connected to the stadium and situated beside the Porter Family Indoor Performance Facility and practice fields on the east side of campus.

A facility built for the future

The latest renderings showcase major spaces including a two-story grand lobby, a state-of-the-art weight room, team meeting and position rooms and a nutrition-focused dining area. The facility will also feature sports medicine and recovery areas, coaches’ offices and a players’ lounge.

Amenities will include a recording studio, golf simulator, barbershop and teaching kitchen where student-athletes can learn about nutrition and meal preparation.

“It’s going to be the nicest football complex in the entire country,” said Head Coach Alex Golesh. “They spared no expense. We took the best of what we saw around the country and designed something that will be absolutely first-class.”

Highlights from the design

  • Weight Room: Custom racks, a sports-science lab, strength coaches’ offices, a nutrition bar and a DXA scan system for bone and muscle analysis.
  • Team Room: Theater-style seating with dual projection screens and space for the full roster and staff.
  • Training Table: Sports-bar-style dining area with multiple meal options and chef and nutrition offices.
  • Grand Lobby: The main entrance to both the football center and the stadium’s south tower premium seating, opening onto Sycamore Drive and designed for events and alumni gatherings.

Part of a $348M transformation

The TGH Center is a cornerstone of USF’s $348 million on-campus stadium and athletics expansion, which broke ground in 2024. It follows the completion of the $22 million Porter Family Indoor Performance Facility, which opened in 2023.

Why it matters for Tampa Bay

USF’s new football complex reflects the university’s growing role in Tampa Bay’s sports and business community. The investment adds to the region’s reputation as a destination for major athletic and academic projects while strengthening the university’s connection to the local economy.
