After more than two years of planning, Tampa’s replacement for Fire Station 24 is finally poised to move into construction.
The Tampa City Council is scheduled Thursday to approve a $17.4 million guaranteed maximum price agreement with J. Kokolakis Contracting to build the new four-bay fire station on a city-owned site near Greco Park.
The construction contract is the largest component of a project now budgeted at $23.8 million, with another $3 million in anticipated federal funding. If approved, construction is expected to be substantially complete by Sept. 1, 2027.

The project has been in development since at least 2022, when Tampa Fire Rescue was evaluating potential locations before selecting the Whiteway Drive site adjacent to Greco Park.
Mayor Jane Castor later included Station 24 as part of a broader modernization of Tampa Fire Rescue, which has included station renovations, new emergency vehicles and more than $116 million in planned investments in fire facilities.
The project remained in design and procurement for more than two years, prompting the City Council to require regular progress reports beginning in 2024 as members sought updates on design, pricing and a groundbreaking date.
The new station will encompass about 17,500 square feet on roughly three acres. In addition to construction, the project’s budget includes design, permitting, project management, utility work, furniture and equipment, public art and contingency funding.
Thursday’s agenda also includes the latest monthly status report required by council. Fire Chief Barbara Tripp said there are no additional updates beyond the construction contract now before council.
