Coast Guard Issues $60M to Rebuild St. Petersburg Waterfront

The U.S. Coast Guard awarded a $60 million contract to rebuild and modernize waterfront facilities at Sector St. Petersburg, replacing infrastructure damaged by Hurricane Helene and preparing the base for future Fast Response Cutter operations.

The contract went to Tutor Perini Corp. of Framingham, Massachusetts, on Aug. 13, with completion expected in summer 2028. The work includes new berthing and marine maintenance facilities, a multipurpose training facility, a boat ramp, fuel station, stormwater systems and other waterfront infrastructure.

The Coast Guard also plans to build a new bulkhead capable of supporting crane operations, install upgraded mooring equipment and shore utility connections and improve waterfront lighting for Fast Response Cutters and other cutter classes.

The project also includes improvements to the buoy storage lot and construction of a Maintenance and Weapons Detachment facility to support cutter maintenance.

“Investing in Sector St. Petersburg’s waterfront infrastructure is an investment in Coast Guard readiness,” Capt. Courtney Sergent, commander of Sector St. Petersburg, said. “This project will restore storm-damaged facilities, modernize critical shore support, and give our crews the resilient infrastructure they need to operate, maintain, and deploy cutters along Florida’s Gulf Coast.”

Sector St. Petersburg serves as a homeport for Coast Guard cutters operating along Florida’s Gulf Coast.

The $60 million contract is funded through federal appropriations, including the One Big Beautiful Bill Act and the American Relief Act of 2025. The Coast Guard said the One Big Beautiful Bill Act provided $25 billion for ships, aircraft, shore facilities, depot maintenance and other assets, the largest capital investment in the service’s history.

The Coast Guard said more than $15 billion of that funding has already been committed to new assets, depot maintenance and shore facilities.
