USF Athletics announces series of tributes honoring Coach Amir Abdur-Rahim’s legacy

In an announcement made at the celebration of life for Amir Abdur-Rahim, the University of South Florida Athletics revealed a series of tributes to honor the coach, who passed away unexpectedly.

A central tribute will be a permanent installation at the Yuengling Center, the Bulls’ home arena, where fans, students and athletes can gather to reflect on Coach Abdur-Rahim’s influence.

South Florida Athletics also announced the creation of the “Love Wins Classic,” an annual game between USF and Kennesaw State University. Named after Coach Abdur-Rahim’s mantra, “love wins,” the game will celebrate his transformative impact on both basketball programs, highlighting the unifying power of sports and his connection with both institutions.

In a special tribute to Coach Abdur-Rahim’s bond with USF’s passionate student section, South Florida Athletics will name the student section at basketball games the “Amir Abdur-Rahim Student Section.”

Throughout the season, all USF athletic teams will wear commemorative patches bearing Coach Abdur-Rahim’s initials, AAR, in green and gold. Additionally, the men’s basketball team will leave an open spot on the bench in his honor, a silent tribute to his enduring presence within the program.

In memory of Coach Abdur-Rahim, the Abdur-Rahim family encourages those wishing to honor his legacy to consider donating to the Future Foundation, a non-profit organization close to his heart.
