YMCA of Greater St. Petersburg names Bill Tapp board member emeritus

Jo-Lynn Brown April 8, 2025

The YMCA of Greater St. Petersburg has appointed William “Bill” Tapp as board member emeritus following his retirement from the board of directors in March, after 25 years of service.

Tapp joined the board in 2000 and served as its 34th chair from 2006 to 2007. He is recognized for his leadership, financial support and advocacy for the organization.

During his tenure, Tapp helped guide major initiatives, including securing a partnership with the City of St. Petersburg that led to the creation of the Childs Park YMCA. He also served in leadership roles on multiple committees, contributing to the nonprofit’s long-term strategy and sustainability.

“Bill Tapp’s exemplary leadership, generosity and passion for the YMCA make him exceptionally deserving of the board member emeritus distinction,” said Kim Jackson, chair of the YMCA of Greater St. Petersburg Board of Directors. “His unwavering commitment to our mission has had a profound impact on our organization and the community we serve.”

The honorary title recognizes Tapp’s contributions as both a leader and donor. In addition to supporting programs financially, he was active in volunteer efforts that furthered the YMCA’s mission across southern Pinellas County.
