Construction crews at the Tampa Museum of Art will begin relocating the downtown dog park at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park, marking the first visible step in the museum’s long-planned Centennial Expansion.
The relocation of the dog park, which will be replaced with two new dog play areas between Curtis Hixon Park and Kiley Gardens, sets the stage for full construction of the museum’s 77,904-square-foot expansion, this fall. A groundbreaking celebration is slated for early October.
The new dog parks, separated by size for small and large dogs, are expected to be completed by late 2025. The design team is led by the New York-based architecture firm Weiss/Manfredi.
The Tampa Museum of Art’s expansion, first announced in 2021, is being managed by The Beck Group and is supported through the ongoing Centennial Campaign. That effort received a $28 million lead gift from real estate developer and longtime museum patron Dick Corbett.
To date, the campaign has raised more than $100 million from individuals, corporations and public entities including the City of Tampa, Hillsborough County and the State of Florida. Fundraising will continue throughout construction, with naming opportunities available for the new dog parks.
