Pinellas County is poised to move ahead with plans for a new North County Service Center, a $51 million project that would replace the county’s aging facility with an approximately 80,000-square-foot government center housing the Tax Collector, Clerk of the Circuit Court and Property Appraiser.
The project also includes a roughly 140,000-square-foot parking garage with about 364 spaces. Surface parking would bring the total to approximately 384 spaces. The building’s first floor would primarily serve customers, while the upper floors would house administrative offices and call centers.
Tax Collector operations now housed in leased space at 29399 U.S. Highway 19 N. in Clearwater would move to the new building. County documents estimate consolidating the offices would eliminate leased space and save about $800,000 annually.
The North County Service Center is one component of Pinellas County’s broader plan to relocate its government headquarters from downtown Clearwater to a new campus near U.S. 19 and Ulmerton Road. The county purchased the 21-acre site for $33 million in 2023 and expects the new government center to be completed in 2029.
County commissioners are expected to consider a reimbursement resolution Tuesday that would preserve the county’s ability to finance the project with future tax-exempt bonds. The vote would not authorize construction or issue debt.
