Streetlight Taco coming to downtown Clearwater’s Peoples Bank Building

Streetlight Taco will open its first location outside Tampa in downtown Clearwater’s newly restored Peoples Bank Building, adding a second concept from Tastes Pretty Good Hospitality to Cleveland Street.

The Michelin Bib Gourmand-recognized restaurant will occupy the landmark’s ground floor at Cleveland Street and Fort Harrison Avenue, where it is planned as a lively, street-facing Mexican bodega with a central bar, warm wood finishes and design influences drawn from Mexican markets and street vendors.

“Streetlight Taco brings a vibrant Mexican bodega,” Nick Reader, chief executive of Tastes Pretty Good Hospitality, said in a statement. “At night, there’s a party atmosphere. That energy is what we hope to bring to Cleveland Street—something that complements everything else that’s happening downtown.”

Streetlight Taco opened in South Tampa in January 2024 and earned Michelin Guide recognition within months. Its menu centers on tacos, including its brisket taco, as well as tostadas, burritos, bowls, chips and dips, mercado sides, flan, tres leches and crafted drinks.

The restaurant makes its tortillas from heirloom Mexican corn cooked and milled in-house into fresh masa, while its meats are slow-braised or prepared over wood fire and its salsas, sauces and condiments are made from scratch.

Chef-partner Michael Brannock said the building’s restoration made the location a natural fit for the concept.

“The restoration of Peoples Bank is meticulous,” Brannock said. “That matches what we’re about, because that’s how I look at the menu and Streetlight Taco—all the little details.”

The announcement comes just days after the Peoples Bank Building reopened following its restoration, including the return of its historic clock. More than 3,000 people attended Saturday’s completion celebration, according to the Cleveland Street Alliance.

Streetlight Taco is the second Tastes Pretty Good Hospitality restaurant announced for downtown Clearwater, following Rippers, a hot dog and burger concept planned for the restored Telephone Building on Cleveland Street. The group also operates Rocca, Bar Terroir and Lumbre in Tampa.

An opening date for Streetlight Taco Clearwater was not announced.
