BayCare is partnering with Northwestern Medicine in a collaboration aimed at expanding BayCare’s development as an academic health system in West Central Florida.
The partnership will focus on expanding access to advanced medical treatments and clinical research, in addition to enhancing education and training for physicians, residents and students across the region.
“This isn’t the beginning, it’s the next step in a journey we’ve been focused on for years,” said BayCare president and chief executive officer Stephanie Conners. “West Central Florida deserves more access to academic medicine.”
Northwestern Medicine is the academic health system anchored by Chicago’s Northwestern Memorial Hospital. The organization has been on the U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals Honor Roll for 13 consecutive years.
BayCare currently operates 16 hospitals and a network of outpatient services. It recently acquired 36 acres in West Tampa, increasing its footprint in the area by 75%, and is naming the campus the BayCare Academic Health and Research Corridor.
The collaboration will not change BayCare’s ownership or leadership structure. The first phase of the partnership will focus on professional development for clinicians and expanding clinical research.
