Raising Cane’s plans to open its first Tampa restaurant on North Dale Mabry Highway, extending a Tampa Bay expansion that has already brought the chicken chain to Clearwater, St. Petersburg and Lutz.
The company would demolish the Sunnyside medical marijuana dispensary at 1902 N. Dale Mabry Highway and replace it with a 2,794-square-foot restaurant with a drive-thru, mobile-order pickup and outdoor dining.
The North Dale Mabry restaurant would become Raising Cane’s fifth Tampa Bay location as the Louisiana-based chain continues an expansion that began in Florida with its first restaurant in Homestead in 2022.
Cane’s opened 118 restaurants in 2024 alone and has since grown beyond 1,000 locations worldwide, nearly three decades after Todd Graves opened the first Raising Cane’s in Baton Rouge in 1996.
Raising Cane’s expects to spend about $1.75 million on the Tampa restaurant, replacing Sunnyside’s 8,126-square-foot building with one roughly one-third its size.
