Museum is celebrating motherhood in Tampa Bay

Barbara Lynch May 9, 2024

As Mother’s Day approaches, there’s no better way to honor the essential role of mothers than by supporting the Museum of Motherhood (MoM), in St. Petersburg. This one-of-a-kind museum, housed inside The Factory St. Pete, is dedicated to the art, science and HERstory of motherhood – a vital topic that has been vastly underrepresented in art, academia and philanthropy.

The reality is a mere 11% of American history textbooks cover women’s history, only 11% of museum collections showcase art created by women and only 2% of philanthropic funding supports projects benefiting women and girls. MoM is spearheading a movement to rectify these glaring disparities and shed light on the immeasurable contributions of mothers throughout history.

Spanning 1,000 square feet, this nonprofit institution offers free admission to the public featuring rotating exhibitions of mother-made artwork, historical artifacts and interactive exhibits – including cutting-edge pregnancy simulation technology. In 2024 alone, MoM expects to welcome over 15,600 visitors through its doors, host 40 unique community events and engage 80 scholars, from around the world, at its annual academic conference on mother studies.

As demand for MoM’s programming and exhibits continues to surge, the museum is seeking support from the Tampa Bay community to propel its growth and secure a prominent place in the museum landscape. MoM is calling on 100 visionary individuals to invest $1,000 each, as part of the “We Build Tampa Bay” fundraiser, and contribute to the expansion of this vital institution.

The $1,000 pledge will not only drive MoM into a new phase of development, but also support the employment of talented local women and the creation of sustainable revenue streams through innovative interactive exhibits. Most crucially, your contribution will provide more space to display mother-made art, science and HER-story, ensuring that the essential roles of women and mothers are celebrated and preserved for generations to come.

As influential business leaders, you possess the power to catalyze positive change in our community. By investing in the Museum of Motherhood, you honor the mothers in your life while simultaneously amplifying the voices and experiences of women, mothers and families. Join the 100 Women of Tampa Bay by pledging your support to the Museum of Motherhood’s Founder’s Circle today. Please use this form to pledge by May 1, with the celebration party at MoM on May 8.
