Port Tampa Bay reopens shipping channels, resumes fuel distribution after Hurricane Milton

Jo-Lynn Brown October 14, 2024

Port Tampa Bay has reopened its shipping channels and resumed vessel operations, following Hurricane Milton. Vessel movements will be restricted to daylight hours.

After completing safety assessments, the U.S. Coast Guard has set the port condition to normal, with one-way traffic and daylight-only restrictions in place. Commercial vessels, including fuel tankers, cruise ships and vessels carrying perishable goods, are now queuing for entry.

Cruise itineraries for Carnival Paradise, Royal Caribbean’s Serenade of the Seas, Grandeur of the Seas, Enchantment of the Seas and Margaritaville at Sea Islander have been affected. Passengers are advised to contact their cruise lines for updates.

Fuel distribution has also resumed, after power was restored to all seven fuel terminals on Oct. 11. Safety tests are underway and most terminals have begun loading fuel trucks for delivery to local gas stations.

Port Tampa Bay continues to coordinate with state and federal agencies to ensure fuel supply to the region.
