The University Area Community Development Corporation has appointed Arturo Puckerin as its new chief executive officer and executive director.
Puckerin, who has worked extensively in affordable housing and neighborhood revitalization, will oversee the nonprofit’s operations, staff and programs. His role also includes working with the board of directors, strengthening partnerships with local stakeholders and guiding initiatives in housing, workforce, education, public health and youth development.
Most recently, Puckerin served as executive director of the Jackson Housing Commission, in Michigan, where he managed Housing and Urban Development programs along with federal and state voucher subsidies to provide affordable housing for low- and moderate-income families.
“I am thrilled to be joining the amazing University Area CDC team,” Puckerin said. “As CEO, I will be forward-facing in assessing existing programs and in identifying gaps and developing innovative solutions to address evolving community development needs. My central focus will be on increasing earnings for low-wage earners, expanding affordable, mixed-income and workforce housing accessibility, and strengthening youth services.”
Now in its 26th year, University Area CDC provides youth programs, adult education and resource assistance for thousands of Tampa residents. Its mission is the redevelopment and sustainability of neighborhoods surrounding the University of South Florida’s Tampa campus.
Puckerin succeeds Sarah Combs, who became CEO of Metropolitan Ministries, in Tampa, in August.
